If you're tired of boring rooms, these design pros tricks create new focal points for under $100.00.

Add a wallpaper border or stencil 9 to 48 inches from the ceiling to where you wish to draw the eye.

Use standard shutters and a faux scenery (or use a poster) to create a make believe picture window.

Paint a pattern along the wall that you want to be your focus. Stick to a single paint store color strip so the colors will blend well. Use colors on the strip that are at least one shade away for contrast.

Create a cozy corner for the room. Choose five colors that match the furniture. Paint one wall the darkest color. Paint the adjoining wall the third color. Block out a simple geometric pattern of three shapes, small, medium, and large. The shapes should cross the corner, and if you're talented, interweave with each other.

A drapery rod can display a decorative blanket or a small rug to hang above a fireplace mantle.
